How to Choose the Right Forklift
Purchasing a forklift isn’t as cut-and-dried as you might think. You’ll need to keep a lot of different considerations in mind when it comes to finding the perfect piece of equipment. This is an extremely important decision, so you’ll have to choose wisely. Here’s some information that could help make that decision a little easier.
- Carrying capacity – Most forklifts are designed to carry very heavy loads. Most of them can handle at least five tons. But you might not need that much of a workhorse for your operation. Or, you might actually have a need for a forklift that will lit even more. We’ll make sure you get the forklift that best meets your specific application.
- Fuel – There are three types of fuel most forklifts use – gasoline, diesel or liquid propane. However, there are other forklifts that run on plain old electricity. These tend to be perfect for indoor applications. If you need a more rugged forklift, one that runs outside and inside, then you should look at LP models. They are incredibly durable – no matter that the elements may dish out – and the fumes they emit are less noxious than gas.
- Tires – It’s also important to consider the kind of tires that will be on your forklift. If you’ll typically be using your forklift inside, then cushion tires will be a good choice. If you plan mostly on using it outside, then pneumatic tires will be best. They hold up better on rough, uneven terrain.
