Most Common Reasons for Forklift Repair
The majority of forklift repairs fall into these three categories.
Does the forklift start?
The most obvious problem is a forklift that won’t start. This can have several different causes and can often be traced back to a faulty or dead battery. If the battery looks fine, an overheated engine could be the problem. Check the coolant level. If that’s not the culprit, look for built up dirt and debris. Wash out the radiator ports with clean water. If the problem persists, there may be corrosion in the radiator or a more serious issue.
Does the forklift lift?
If your fork won’t lift or lower or simply moves too slowly, productivity will come to a screeching halt. There could be a problem with the forklift mast. Check the hydraulic fluid levels and pay attention to the chains. They can stretch, rust, bend, crack or become misaligned over time.
Does the forklift steer?
Does the operator have trouble getting the forklift to go where it needs to go? Difficult or erratic steering can cause loss of productivity. It’s also dangerous, both for drivers and others in the warehouse. Low steering fluid could be the cause. If the gears are worn out or something more serious is wrong, you will want to have it checked out by the professionals at Royal Forklift.
