Signs Your Warehouse Door May Need Repair
Properly working doors in your warehouse provide for efficient movement and keep areas separated and sealed off. They also provide security for your employees and your products. When the doors don’t function properly, your productivity, energy consumption and revenue may be affected.
Malfunctioning Photo-Eye: Photo-eyes are an important safety feature. They keep the door from closing when an object passes through or when something blocks the infrared beams. Malfunctions often occur because of dirt and debris on the eye. If a photo-eye is not lined up correctly, it may prevent the door from closing.
Damaged Spring or Cable: Torsion springs help the door opener lift the door. They can wear out from use, but are also susceptible to rusting. Cables can also be a problem – if a cable breaks, the door won’t move. These components should be inspected from time to time. If they begin breaking down or break completely, they will need to be replaced.
Noisy Door: Noisy doors are a common problem. If the doors are noisy on opening or closing, e.g., they are loud, squeak, click, or have a jerky motion, they need attention. To control noise and extend the lifetime of your doors, springs, tracks, sliders, rollers, hinges, etc. should be cleaned and lubricated and loose door and track hardware should be tightened. This will protect the components from moisture, corrosion and premature wear.
