Not familiar with the UniCarriers brand? The company was formed with the merging of TCM into Nissan Forklift Corporation and the renaming of Nissan as UniCarriers Forklifts. It also acquired Barrett Lift Trucks, one of the oldest manufacturers of electric narrow aisle forklifts, pallet trucks and jacks. UniCarriers has been producing material handling equipment with 3,000 to 22,000-pound capacity in America’s heartland (Marengo, Illinois) since the 1980s.
Royal Forklift also has a wide selection of used forklifts and aerial access equipment available if you are not looking to buy brand new.
Forklift Types
Whether you are searching for your first lift truck, replacing a piece of equipment, or expanding your fleet, we have provided a general description of five common forklift classifications to help you find the right material handling equipment for your company.
Class I = Electric sit-down 3-wheel and 4-wheel forklifts. Ideal uses include loading and unloading tractor-trailer and handling pallets. They are generally counterbalanced, which means that the battery also functions as a counterweight for stability. Because they are battery-powered, they are much quieter and produce no emissions, making them ideal when indoor air quality needs to be considered.
Class II = Electric reach and deep-reach forklifts. The operator guides the fork to reach up and grab pallets, so they offer height that many other forklifts cannot achieve and are targeted toward picking and putting away inventory indoors. They can operate effectively in narrow aisles. These are typically standup units, but sit-down models are also available.
Class III = Walk-behind pallet jacks, rider pallet jacks, tuggers, stand-up counterbalanced forklift, and walkie counterbalanced stacker. These lifts often come in both rider and walk-behind (“walkie”) options. Ideal uses include quickly unloading deliveries from tractor-trailers and moving loads to a staging area, as well as for short runs in smaller warehouses.
Class IV = LP gas powered internal combustion engine with cushion tires. This is a sit-down forklift meant to be used inside on smooth dry floors for moving pallets to and from the loading dock and the storage area. Cushion-tired forklifts typically ride lower to the ground than other forklifts, making them useful in low-clearance situations.
Class V = LP gas or diesel-powered internal combustion engine with air or solid rubber tires. This is a sit-down forklift meant to be used outside, but may also be used inside large warehouses. Forklifts in this class are very versatile for different load sizes.
