Forklift and Aerial Lift Training
OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.178(1) requires the employer to ensure that, “each powered industrial truck operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely.” Similar requirements apply to aerial equipment in accordance with ANSI/SIA A92.3, A92.5, A92.6.
Royal Forklift offers OSHA-approved classroom training that can be tailored to your type of lift truck or application(s). Training is done on-site and consists of safety videos, safety test, and a driving test and/or evaluation in the area the unit operates. Instructors grade each test on-site and issue licenses and certificates of completion.
Our Train the Trainer program enables employees to become the official trainers for your company. Classroom and hands-on training techniques provide them with the skills to teach forklift operator training safety courses in their facilities and give out certifications.
Lift Truck Safety Tips
Here are a few safety tips and guidelines that will help keep your operators and your workplace productive and safe.
- Do a routine check of the equipment before driving, checking for faults in brakes, steering, controls, warning devices, mast and tires.
- Don’t operate/hold any of the lift truck controls with greasy or oily hands or feet; they may slide off and cause an accident.
- Always use the lift truck’s safety belt or restraint system, and position all body parts safely inside the confines of the operator compartment.
- Obey all company safety rules and posted traffic signs – including speed limits.
- Keep a clear view of the path of travel.
- Make any changes in direction or any stops gradually and slowly.
- Use the horn and slow down when approaching intersections, blind corners, door and ramp openings, pedestrians and other vehicles, and when backing up.
- Do not lift or move a load unless both forks are fully under the load.
- Never exceed the load capacity of the forklift and any attachments.
- Ensure all operators are properly trained and certified to operate a lift truck.
