Which Type of Forklift Do You Need?
Having the right forklift for your application and work environment is essential for safety and productivity. The knowledgeable and experienced team at Royal Forklift will identify the forklift, or forklifts, that are best suited for you and your business based on your unique needs.
There are a wide selection of styles and types of forklifts to choose from, including:
Counterbalance forklifts: These forklifts have a weight at the rear of the truck that offsets the load to be lifted at the front. They are the most common type of lift truck and are typically used in indoor warehouses and stores, but can be used outdoors as well. They can handle virtually all material handling functions and feature dual forks that protrude from the front of the machine to help move loads from one place to another.
3-wheel counterbalance forklifts: These forklifts work in a similar way to regular counterbalance forklifts, but have a single drive wheel in the center of the rear of the machine to ensure maximum maneuverability. Because they can turn tight circles, they are best for narrow aisles and tight spaces. They are also well-suited to applications that require inside and outside use and racking loading.
Reach truck forklifts: The name of these machines is derived from the fork carriage’s ability to “reach” beyond the stabilizing legs and into racking. They have extended lift height and are best for use in warehouses with high-rise storage pallet racking. Stand-up trucks are most common, and they can operate in very tight working environments. Their low under-carriage clearance makes them less suitable for outside work.
Sideloaders: These lift trucks operate by picking up their load from the side and can handle wide loads that would otherwise be unstable on a conventional counterbalance forklift. They are designed to handle long materials, such as timber, piping and sheets.
